Since 2010, Maruti Suzuki will have its highest sales figure in one calendar year at 11.48 lakh units in 2014.
Undaunted by what the 4-wheeler industry has been going through in India, Maruti Suzuki announced that it will end 2014 with record sales. At 11.48 lakh units, Maruti Suzuki will beat its previous record of 10.60 lakh units it sold in 2010. The new number is also 13% more than what it sold in 2013. In the current financial year, the company’s domestic car market share is expected to be around 45% which is Maruti’s highest ever market share.
Seeing the trend, India’s largest carmaker expects the figure to be around 11.50 lakh mark considering we still have a few more days to go before we walk into the new year. One more reason for the increasing sales is the new launches Maruti has made in recent months. Models like Alto K10, Maruti Ciaz and the Celerio were welcomed by customers with open arms, and models like Swift, Dzire, Wagon R and Alto have been doing wonders for the car manufacturer from some years now.
Commenting on the sales figures, an elated R C Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India said, “We have grown by 13 % in terms of volume till November and will maintain double digit growth this financial year.”
Maruti Suzuki has not decided anything on the price rise of its models in the new year as the government is still to decide if it will retain the excise duty cut which expires on December 31’s midnight. If it lapses, Maruti says that the prices of its cars are expected to go up by 4% in January 2015.
