The WagonR automatic becomes the third Maruti Suzuki model to be equipped with its automated manual transmission
Maruti Suzuki has launched an AMT version of one of its all time favourite hatchbacks, the WagonR. The WagonR has been a constant hot selling model for the brand ever since the car’s India launch in the year 2000. As of October 2015, it was the fourth highest selling car in the country with 14,734 units sold during the month. Needless to say, that the AMT version of the car will add a boost to the model’s overall sales.
The AMT automatic versions of the car will be availed in VXi and VXi (O) trims of the WagonR and WagonR Stingray. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR AMT is priced at Rs. 4,76,935 ex-showroom Delhi while the WagonR Stingray AMT is priced at Rs. 4,98,594, ex-showroom Delhi. Prices of the WagonR range between Rs. 4.39 lakh to Rs. 5.09 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. While the WagonR Stingray retails between Rs. 4.58 lakh to Rs. 5.31 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
The mechanicals of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR automatic remain identical to that of the standard model with its 1.0 litre, three cylinder petrol engine developing 58bhp @ 6,200 rpm and 77Nm of torque @ 3,700 rpm. Both the manual model with its five-speed gearbox and automatic model with its five-speed automated manual transmission return an ARAI claimed fuel efficiency of 20.5 km/l.
Introducing the new variants, R S Kalsi, Executive Director Marketing and Sales, MSIL said, “WagonR is one of the strongest brands in the Indian car market and it has been one of the top five selling cars in the country. WagonR will be the third brand from our portfolio to get the acclaimed Auto Gear Shift technology. By introducing the AGS in a popular car like WagonR, we aim to democratize the AGS technology so that more customers can enjoy the convenience of automatic gear shift without compromising on fuel efficiency and at an attractive price.”
A few days ago we had reported that Maruti Suzuki would be eventually making safety features such as anti-lock brakes and dual front airbags standard across their range of cars. Along these lines, Maruti has made front airbags and ABS optional across all variants of the WagonR and WagonR Stingray.
“The option of dual airbags and anti-lock braking further strengthens the core proposition of WagonR and Stingray as ‘Smart’ cars,” added Kalsi.
