Maruti Suzuki WagonR Becomes Best-Selling Car in India in FY25, Sells Over 1.98 Lakh Units
The tall-boy hatchback from Maruti Suzuki has maintained its status as the top seller for four consecutive financial years.

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR has emerged as the highest-selling car for FY24- 25 in India, with over 1.98 lakh units sold. The WagonR’s immense popularity as a ‘tall boy’ hatchback has been a key factor in its continued success, securing its position as the sales leader for four consecutive financial years. With over 33.7 lakh units now in Indian households, the car has earned a loyal following, with one in every four customers choosing to repurchase it. Launched in 1999, the WagonR has evolved through various facelifts and generational updates. The third-generation model, launched in 2019, received a notable mid-cycle refresh in 2022.
Commenting on this achievement, Mr. Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, 'WagonR’s sustained leadership in the Indian automotive market underscores strong customer trust and an unmatched value proposition over 25 years. Maruti Suzuki WagonR: Engine
The Maruti Suzuki hatchback has a Heartect platform and is available with two petrol and a petrol-CNG powertrain options. The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder unit produces 67bhp and 90Nm, while the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine generates 82bhp and 113Nm. Both petrol engines come with the choice of manual or automatic transmissions.

The factory-fitted CNG unit generates 56bhp and 82.1Nm and is paired exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR: Price and Rivals
The WagonR has four primary variants (LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+) and is priced between Rs 5.64 lakh and Rs 7.47 lakh (both, ex-showroom). It competes against the Tata Tiago, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, and the Citroen C3.
