Maruti Suzuki will be launching its third AMT model in the form of the WagonR automatic
Spy images of a Maruti Suzuki WagonR equipped with an automated manual transmission have been put on the internet by Gaadiwaadi.com. These images clearly show the gear lever of Maruti Suzuki’s AMT gearbox inside a WagonR along with its ‘Auto Gear Shift’ badge on the boot lid. Both the gearlever and the badge are shared with the Celerio AMT and the Alto K10 AMT ofcourse, making the WagonR the third AMT model from Maruti. The company will also offer the AMT gearbox on the WagonR Stingray.
Like the Alto K10 and Celerio, the WagonR too is powered by Maruti Suzuki’s 1.0 litre three cylinder petrol engine developing 67bhp of max power and 90Nm of peak torque. And since the AMT unit is based on the five-speed manual gearbox, the WagonR AMT will have the same ARAI fuel efficiency figure as that of the manual transmission WagonR. This means a rated fuel efficiency of 20.5 km/l.
Expect Maruti Suzuki to price the WagonR AMT at a premium of Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 35,000 over its manual counterpart. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR is priced between Rs. 3.71 lakh to Rs. 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the WagonR Stingray is priced between Rs. 4.22 lakh to Rs. 4.79 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. From the photos we know for sure that the VXi variant of the WagonR will be launched with the AMT gearbox. This version is priced at Rs. 4.28 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
The launch of the car is expected to be around the corner. Stay tuned to autoX for all the updates.
