Maruti Suzuki launched the third-generation Wagon R hatchback in January 2019 in India. Since then, the hatchback has crossed the 10 lakh-unit sales mark in India, becoming the latest Maruti Suzuki model to join other Maruti Suzuki offerings – the Swift, Brezza, and Fronx – in creating the sales record for the company this year. In the fiscal year 2023, the Wagon R with 2,12,340 units and 12 per cent growth topped the mid-size hatchback category. Compared to that, FY2024 saw Maruti Suzuki sell 2,00,177 units, registering a 5.73 per cent year-over-year decline. Despite that, the Wagon R retained its title as India's best-selling passenger vehicle. Of Maruti Suzuki's total sales of 17.5 lakh units, the hatchback accounted for 11 per cent.

Coming to the first quarter of the current financial year, the company delivered around 46,312 units as compared to 54,618 units in April – June 2023. The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, which was first introduced in 1999 in India, has sold about 32.1 lakh units to date. Its sales blitzed past the 30-lakh mark in May 2023.

Built on Maruti Suzuki’s Heartect platform, the Wagon R gets two engine options: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol and a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. The former churns out 67bhp and 90Nm, while the latter makes 82bhp and 113Nm. Both engines come with manual and automatic transmissions. A factory-installed CNG kit is also on offer with the model.

Like 16 other Maruti Suzuki cars and SUVs, the Wagon R comes with a 3-year/1 lakh kilometre warranty as standard, an increase from the 2-year/40,000km warranty offered before. Besides, there is also a Solitaire warranty package, which provides an enhanced warranty of up to six years or 1.60 lakh km, whichever is earlier. Also available are Platinum (4-year/1.20 lakh km) and Royal Platinum (5-year/1.40 lakh km) packages.
