Maruti Suzuki has launched the new Swift CNG in the Indian market. It is based on the new-generation Swift hatchback launched with a petrol engine about four months ago. Since then, the petrol-powered hatchback has clocked over 67,000 units in India.
Coming back to the Swift CNG, the new model comes in three variants – VXi, VXi (O) and ZXi – and is priced from Rs 8.20 lakh (ex-showroom). All three variants of the Swift CNG come powered by a new Z-series 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine paired with a factory-installed CNG kit. When running on petrol, the Swift churns out 80bhp at 5,700rpm and 112Nm of peak torque at 4,300rpm. In CNG mode, the car makes 69bhp and 101.8Nm at 2,900rpm. Maruti Suzuki says the CNG version yields a fuel efficiency of 32.85km/kg (ARAI), 6 per cent over what its predecessor delivered. Unlike its petrol counterpart, the CNG model is mated only to a 5-speed gearbox.
