Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG India Launch in September; Here's All You Need to Know

Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the Swift CNG in India around the second week of September 2024.  The Swift CNG might cost Rs 95,000 more than the Swift Petrol, which starts at Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the Swift CNG in India around the second week of September 2024. The hatchback will be similar to its petrol-powered counterpart, with a few CNG-specific tweaks. It is expected to cost Rs 95,000 more than the Swift Petrol, which starts at Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The current new-gen Swift is available in five different variants – LXi, VXi, VXi (O), ZXi, and ZXi+ – with manual and automatic transmission options. While there is no confirmation, market reports indicate that Maruti Suzuki may provide a CNG option with the top-spec trims. Read on for more details.

Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG: Powertrain

The Swift CNG will have the same Z-series 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine as the petrol-powered model, which produces a maximum power output of 80bhp and a peak torque of 112Nm. The regular Swift gets both a 5-speed manual and automatic transmission options, but the CNG variant is likely to only feature the former. With manual and automatic gears, the petrol-powered model's fuel efficiency stands at 25.75km/l and 24.80km/l, respectively. Although there has been no announcement, the upcoming Swift CNG is expected to have a mileage of more than 32km/kg. 

Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG: Features

Similar to its petrol counterpart, the Swift CNG will come with an array of features such as a 9.0-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, auto climate control, keyless entry, push-button start/stop, Arkamys sound system, rear AC vents, cruise control, an analogue instrument cluster, ISOFIX anchors, Type-C charging port, rear parking sensors, and ABS with EBD.

Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG: Market Competitors 

The existing Maruti Suzuki Swift competes with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Tata Tiago. In its CNG avatar, the hatchback will face competition from CNG derivates of these vehicles.

Other Maruti Suzuki Developments

In August, Maruti Suzuki India sold 1.82 lakh units overall, a 4% decrease from the previous year. In addition, the manufacturer's domestic passenger vehicle wholesales declined by 8% to 1.43 lakh units, down from 1.56 lakh units in 2023.
