As the small crossover/SUV segment hots up, Maruti-Suzuki is gearing up to throw their hat in the ring with their first ever crossover offering, the S Cross. Featuring all new styling, with the intention to reflect the car’s usability on most kinds of terrain, the design is intended to give the S Cross enhanced presence on the road, while also offering superior interior and luggage space.
The engine lineup in the S Cross has received a brand new engine, with the range topping 320 DDiS version of the S Cross featuring a 1.6-litre diesel engine, which is equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger and produces 118bhp and 320Nm of torque. The second engine in the lineup is the familiar 1.3-litre diesel engine, which is a staple feature of the rest of the Maruti-Suzuki range, and in this trim produces 89bhp and 200Nm of torque. The 320 DDiS is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 22.7km/l, while the 200 DDiS has a five-speed manual gearbox and a fuel efficiency of 23.65km/l. There are no automatic transmission available on the S Cross, and it is front-wheel drive only, with all-wheel drive not being offered even as an option.
With the Indian consumer becoming more aware of the safety aspect of their cars, Maruti has given specific focus on the safety features of the S Cross, with the car featuring high-strength steel components, as well as all-wheel disc brakes and ABS as standard across the range. There are also increased standard equipment levels on the S Cross as Maruti aims to create space for itself in the premium segment, and so the car features Cruise Control, Rain-sensing wipers, HID headlamps, Climate Control, 16-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and Bluetooth as well as a TFT screen in the metre console.
And to upgrade the customer experience for a premium vehicle, the S Cross will be offered to customers through a brand new customer experience, which Maruti refers to as the NEXA experience, with the goal of this sales process to offer customers a more customized and premium experience.
