Maruti Suzuki brings down production of the Ritz in preparation of revised production plans.

Leading Indian passenger car maker Maruti Suzuki is bringing production of its Ritz hatchback to an end in the country in preparation of phasing it out in order to replace it with newer models. The Maruti Suzuki Ritz has been selling alongside its more popular sibling – the Swift, for a while now. The Maruti Suzuki Ritz has always been a better value proposition than the Maruti Swift considering its lower price tag while being the same car underneath (other than having a shorter wheelbase), essentially. Both the Swift and the Ritz have identical levels of equipment and are powered by the same set of petrol and diesel engines.

And although production of the Ritz may have come to a halt, availability will depend on dealer inventory at the moment. While Maruti Suzuki on an average produced 2,500 – 3,000 units of the Ritz on a monthly basis, only five units of the car were produced in October of 2016.

There have been reports of Maruti Suzuki having phased out the Ritz in the interest of increasing production for current hot selling models such as the Baleno premium hatchback and the Vitara Brezza compact SUV. And to make for new upcoming models such as the Ignis hatchback.

That being said, the Ritz continues to be listed on Maruti Suzuki’s website with prices ranging from Rs. 4.30 lakh to Rs. 6.58 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Meanwhile the Maruti Suzuki Swift is priced between Rs. 4.75 lakh to Rs. 7.44 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
