The much-awaited Jimny was officially debuted in India by Maruti Suzuki at the 2023 Auto Expo. India will be the first market in the world to get the SUV in its most practical form, a 5-door model. The SUV will shortly be launched in the country, and bookings for the Jimny 5-door are currently being accepted at all Maruti Suzuki NEXA showrooms throughout India. A lower Zeta trim of the model will also be on offer, though Maruti Suzuki only displayed the Jimny's top-end Alpha trim at the 16th edition of the Auto Expo. In the latest development, the Jimny in Zeta trim was recently spotted and can be seen in these initial spy shots. Here's what it has in store for the buyers.
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny's Zeta trim is expected to be considerably less expensive than the top-spec Alpha trim. This also means that this specific variant will be lacking a number of features present in the Alpha variant. Let's start with the visual differences that can be seen in the spy shots. The chrome elements on the grille are standard, but it gets halogen headlamps rather than the LED units found on the top-spec Alpha version. The Zeta model lacks even the headlamp washer and fog lamps. In terms of appearance, the Jimny's base-spec variant is easily distinguished by its 15-inch steel wheels rather than alloys. The rear of this variant is identical to the top one. Besides this, the keyless entry button is missing from the rear side of the model.

Now, coming to the powertrain, the core mechanical specifications of the Jimny 5-door Zeta variant will remain unchanged. The new Jimny is powered by the same 1.5-litre petrol engine found in the Ertiga, the Ciaz, and the latest Brezza. Maruti Suzuki may provide a mild hybrid system, but the Toyota-sourced self-charging hybrid is out for the time being. With a manual transmission, the engine churns out 103bhp of maximum power and 130Nm of peak torque. Maruti Suzuki may make the new six-speed AT available as an option.
The all-black cabin of the SUV appears to be nearly identical to the top-spec Alpha variant, except for a few features. The Jimny Zeta model comes with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is smaller than the top-tier model's nine-inch unit. It does have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but no wireless connectivity. The base variant lacks cruise control, a start-stop button, and auto air conditioning, both of which are offered with the Alpha variant. The Jimny Zeta trim, however, does come equipped with six airbags, a rear parking camera, ESP, hill hold /descent control, and a brake limited-slip differential.

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny's price is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The model is anticipated to cost between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom) since it is a sub-4 metre SUV. It will compete with models like the Thar (a five-door version is in the pipeline) and the upcoming five-door Force Gurkha in this price bracket. However, options in this price range also include the Skoda Kushaq, the Hyundai Creta, and the Kia Seltos. Therefore, the Jimny will so face up against vehicles like these compact SUVs.
