Maruti Ignis launch reportedly pushed back by three to six months.
By now it’s very evident that 2016 has been a somewhat slow year for the passenger vehicle market. Amid policy uncertainties brought in by the ban on diesel engines above 2,000cc in the NCR region and later Kerala too, along with other socio economic factors, it’s not the best of times for the market. As a result, new car launches too have been far and few towards the middle of the year. Along these lines, India’s leading car maker Maruti Suzuki with a market share of 42.02 per cent as of June 2016, has decided to postpone the launch of its upcoming Ignis hatchback.
It has been reported that the launch of the Ignis has been pushed back by anywhere between three to six months. And that this has been done in order to use its production capacity optimally to clear the backlog of around 1 lakh units in bookings for its popular Baleno hatchback and Vitara Brezza compact SUV.
This is being done to cash in on the high demand for the aforementioned models ahead of bringing in fresh demand for a new product. Which makes quite a bit of sense from a manufacturer stand point to optimally push a product at the right time.
As a result, there will be one less car launch in the 2016 festive season which was when the Ignis was supposed to hit the market. And considering the state of affairs right now, it would be ideal for Maruti Suzuki to start fresh with the Ignis in the 2017 calendar year as demand for new cars then to slow down towards the end of a calendar year due to manufacturing model year for cars in relation to resale value.
That said the performance oriented Boosterjet version of the Baleno scheduled for launch in the 2016 festive season should spice things up.
