Maruti Suzuki has launched the diesel Swift DZire with an automated manual transmission (AMT)
Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, one of the best selling cars in India now comes with a five-speed AMT gearbox or Auto Gear Shift (AGS) as the company refers to it, in the top diesel ZDi variant for Rs. 8.39 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
The DZire is the first diesel and the fourth vehicle from Maruti Suzuki to be offered with AGS technology. The Swift DZire though is not the first compact sedan to feature an AMT autobox with a diesel engine as the Tata Zest AMT was the pioneer in the segment.
R S Kalsi, Executive Director Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), said, “Maruti Suzuki introduced the AGS technology in India with Celerio and we currently offer it in Alto K10 and WagonR also. It has been very well accepted by customers. We are delighted to now offer Auto Gear Shift technology in DZire diesel as well.”
The DZire diesel with AMT is powered by the same 1,248cc / 4 cylinder diesel engine as the manual model. And as is the case with all of Maruti's AMT models, the Swift DZire AMT too has the same ARAI claimed fuel efficiency figure of 26.59 Km/l as the manual model.
The petrol automatic version of the Swift DZire in VXi spec meanwhile continues to feature a conventional four-speed autobox.
Till date, MSIL has sold over 11.5 lakh units of DZire. It is the only sedan in India to cross a million units sales mark.
