With the launch of the Dzire CNG, Maruti Suzuki now offers up to nine models with its factory-fitted S-CNG kit.

Maruti Suzuki has launched the much-awaited new Dzire CNG today in two variants – VXi and ZXi. While the former is priced at ₹8.14 lakh, the latter is priced at ₹8.82 lakh (all figures are ex-showroom). The Dzire CNG is only available in the middle two variants, and it's also for the first time that it's available for purchase to private customers. Until now, the CNG version was available only to fleet operators in the preceding generation's Tour S guise. Moreover, the new Dzire CNG is also available under Maruti Suzuki's subscription scheme at an all-inclusive monthly fee (which includes the cost of registration, maintenance, and insurance) of ₹16,999/-.

Engine-wise, the Dzire CNG is still powered by the same 1.2-litre K12 DualJet four-cylinder petrol motor. In petrol mode, the power and torque figures remain unchanged at 88.5bhp and 113Nm, respectively. But in the CNG mode, the figures drop down to 76.4bhp and 98.5Nm. Plus, the CNG versions are only available with a five-speed manual gearbox. Coming to the most important bit, Maruti Suzuki claims the CNG Dzire can deliver a mileage of 31.12km/kg, making it one of the most efficient CNG cars on sale in India.

Like all Maruti S-CNG models, the Dzire CNG also comes with some mechanical updates, including a retuned suspension, an improved fuel injection system, and dual interdependent ECUs.

A price comparison also reveals that the CNG variants are more expensive by around ₹95,000, when compared to their standard petrol-powered counterparts. In spite of the premium, though, the Dzire CNG gets identical features as the petrol-spec VXi and ZXi variants.
