Several passenger cars demonstrated supremacy over others by reporting growth in sales in the past month. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno defeated its siblings and a range of models by other manufacturers to attain the top spot in the list of top-selling cars in May 2023. With more than 18,733 units sold, it came in first place, followed by its siblings, the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Wagon R, respectively. The Baleno hatchback sales increased by 4,763 units or 34.09 percent year-over-year. In terms of prices, this popular Maruti model costs between Rs 6.61 lakh and Rs 9.88 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Mechanically, the Baleno hatchback is driven by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which puts out 89bhp and 113Nm. When running on CNG, the same engine delivers 76.4bhp and 98.5Nm. Top-Ten Best-selling Cars in May 2023: Baleno, Swift, Wagon R, Creta, and More
With over 18,733 units sold, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno was the best-selling vehicle in India in May 2023. The carmaker sold only 13,970 units of the Baleno in the same month last year, which gave the hatchback a year-over-year growth of 34.09 per cent.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift with 17,346 units dispensed in May 2023, took second place on the list. On the other hand, the Wagon R grabbed third spot, with more than 16,258 units sold in the last month. The Wagon R hatchback year-over-year (YoY) sales decreased by 3% as compared to May of last year.
At the fifth position, the Hyundai Creta SUV imprinted its name the last month with 14,449 units sold. The Nexon, on the other hand, overtook its opponent, the Brezza, which was in sixth place with 13,398 sold units, to take the fifth spot with 14,423 units.
The Eeco, Dzire, and Punch, with 12,818 units, 11,315 units, and 11,124 units sold, respectively, took seventh, eighth, and ninth place. With sales of nearly 13,000 units in May 2023, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco saw an increase in monthly and yearly sales figures. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire, on the other hand, had a boost in monthly sales with over 11,300 units sold, but a 2% drop in year-over-year sales. With sales of just over 11,000 units in May 2023, Tata Punch came in the ninth position and reported growth in terms of MoM and YoY basis.
Last but not least, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga claimed the tenth spot on the list, with 10,528 units sold in the previous month. The Ertiga is the lone MPV on this list. It reported an increase twofold in monthly sales. Further, a drop of about 14% in YoY sales.

Maruti Suzuki May 2023 Sales
Maruti Suzuki announced that it dispatched 178,083 units in total in May 2023, comprising both domestic sales and exports to other countries. The automaker sold 146,596 domestically, 5,010 to other OEMs, including Toyota, and 26,477 internationally last month.
