The largest carmaker in the country, Maruti Suzuki, has just launched its first crossover, the Maruti S-Cross with a starting price tag of Rs. 8.34 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is built on the SX4 hatchback template and although it has been labelled as a crossover the car looks like an extended hatchback - it is well over 4 metres at 4,300mm.
The Maruti S-Cross will get its power from two Fiat sourced engines. The DDiS 320 gets the more powerful 1,598cc diesel engine, that can churn out 118bhp and 320Nm of torque, and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This unit also allows the car to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 11.3 seconds. The DDiS 200 gets a smaller 1,248cc diesel unit that churns out 66bhp and 200Nm of torque, and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. According to Maruti, both engines will be able to provide a fuel economy well over 20km/l.
All variants of the S-Cross come with good safety features including ABS and dual airbags as standard.
The S-Cross will be available in 5 colour options, and it will also be the first model from the Maruti Suzuki to be retailed exclusively through 35 NEXA dealers across 24 cities.
