Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Alto K10 get a driver airbag across variants
In its move towards equipping all its cars with anti-lock braking systems with electronic brake force distribution and dual front airbags, Maruti Suzuki so far has equipped its WagonR, Celerio, Swift, Swift DZire, Ertiga, Ciaz, Baleno and S-Cross with the aforementioned safety features in a bid to boost brand appeal on the front. This will also allow Maruti to comply with mandatory safety norms that will come up in the future. Along these lines, India’s largest car maker has now equipped its most affordable passenger car, the Alto with a driver airbag. This includes both the Alto 800 and the more powerful Alto K10.
Although, it would have been more appreciated if Maruti would have equipped the Alto with ABS and EBD instead (keeping costs in mind), as these safety feature have potential to prevent accidents.
Like for the other cars, the Alto 800 and Alto K10 too will be offered with optional safety variants alongside the non-airbag versions of the car. Following are the variants and prices of the Alto models with a driver airbag.
Alto 800:
STD (O) - Rs. 2.62 lakh
LX (O) - Rs. 2.92 lakh
LXi (O) - Rs. 3.21 lakh
LXi CNG (O) - Rs. 3.78 lakh
Alto K10:
LXi (O) - Rs. 3.45 lakh
LXi CNG (O) - Rs. 4.08 lakh
VXi AMT (O) - Rs. 4.11 lakh
All prices are indicative of ex-showroom Delhi.
R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki, commented on the matter by saying, “With driver airbag being offered from the base variant upward as an option for the Alto, a very large number of car customers in India will feel reassured. We have offered enhanced safety features, from the base variants, across our model range, ahead of regulations.”
