Aiming to curate a premium experience at an affordable price, Mahindra has launched a new variant of the XUV700. Billed as the AX5 Select, it is a seven-seat SUV with an internal combustion engine and premium features to back it up. At a starting price of Rs 16.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the Mahindra XUV700 AX5 Select now also gets a skyroof, a dual HD Superscreen (a 10.24-inch infotainment system and a 10.24-inch digital instrument cluster), and a push-button start/stop, all three of which are typical of higher-end variants. Other bits include an AndrenoX system, six speakers, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and Follow-Me-Home headlamps with LED daytime running lights.
Besides, Mahindra has launched a new campaign with the tagline 'Fast forward to the big league', which, according to the company, is meant to emphasise the significant leap in value and features that the AX5 Select offers. Mahindra says this model can meet the needs of those who aspire to own a luxury vehicle without stretching their budget.

Mahindra XUV700 AX5 Select: Powertrain
Mechanically, the XUV700 AX5 Select remains the same. It continues to get two engine options: a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol (Rs 16.89 lakh) and a 2.2-litre diesel (Rs 17.49 lakh). The turbo-petrol setup produces a maximum power output of 197bhp and peak torque of 380Nm, while the diesel mill churns out 182bhp and 450Nm of torque. Moving on, there are two gearbox options: a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter. The more advanced diesel SUV models have the option of the AWD system.
Mahindra XUV700 Gains MX 7-Seat Variant, Blaze Edition Too
In early May, Mahindra added the MX 7-seat variant to the XUV700 lineup in India. Priced at Rs 14.99 lakh (ex-showroom), this variant is Rs 3 lakh less expensive than the AX3 7-seat version, making it a more affordable purchase option. The new Mahindra XUV MX 7-seat gets the same 2.2-litre diesel engine as the XUV700 MX 5-seater, which is priced Rs 40,000 lower than the former.
The engine, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, is tuned to generate 153bhp and 360Nm of torque. Given that the MX 5-seat is also offered with an option of a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, there is a possibility that this engine may find home in the newly introduced MX 7-seat variant as well.

And about two to three days earlier, Mahindra introduced a special Blaze Edition of the XUV700. Limited to 2,500 units, the new edition has a striking matte red paint scheme complemented by blacked-out elements. Price-wise, the Blaze Edition ranges from Rs 24.24 lakh (ex-showroom), which is Rs 25,000 more than the top-spec AX7L variant on which it is based.
