Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has launched its first EV, the XUV400 at an introductory price of Rs 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The EV will have two versions – the XUV400 EL and the XUV400 EC, which will be powered by a 39.4kWh and a 34.5kWh battery, respectively. The prices are applicable only on the first 5,000 units of both versions. Mahindra expects to deliver 20,000 units of the XUV400 within a year of its debut. The front wheels are driven by a single motor. The engine produces a maximum power output of 147.5bhp and 310Nm of peak torque. These numbers enable the XUV400 to reach a top speed of 150 km/h and to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. On a single full charge, the XUV400 EL provides 456 kilometres of driving range, whereas the XUV400 EC offers 375 kilometres of driving range as approved by the MIDC.
The SUV promises a guarantee of 3 years for unlimited kilometres and an extended battery and motor warranty of 8 years or 1,60,000 kilometres. The SUV will come in five colour options – Arctic Blue, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black, and Infinity Blue, with a dual-tone option including Satin Copper. Dimensionally, the Mahindra XUV400 is 4200mm long and has a wheelbase of 2600mm. It will come with a cargo space of 378 litres/418 litres (up to the roof).

The XUV400 will have a number of features, including a rearview camera, an electric sunroof, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, up to six airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, and compatibility with BlueSense Plus mobile apps, which enable 60+ connectivity features, like over-the-air (OTA) updates. The XUV400 also features three drive modes – Fun, Fast, and Fearless – which can alter the steering, throttle, and regenerative energy responses.

Bookings for the all-electric XUV400 will open on January 26, 2023, and deliveries will commence in March 2023 for the XUV400 EL & during the Diwali holiday season for the XUV400 EC. Test drives are now available to customers at local dealerships. The SUV will see a phase-wise launch. In the first phase, it will be launched only in 34 cities – Ahmedabad, Surat, Jaipur, Mumbai MMR, Nasik, Verna (Goa), Pune, Nagpur, Bangalore, Chennai, Trivandrum, Cochin, and Hyderabad, among others.
