Mahindra has launched the facelifted XUV300 SUV – a close rival to the Tata Nexon – in the Indian market. Carrying a starting price of Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the compact SUV (dubbed the XUV 3XO) is about Rs 66,000 less expensive than the entry-level Tata Nexon Smart. For 2024, the new XUV 3XO brings a design that draws inspiration from Mahindra's range of BE electric vehicles, as well as additional features and an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic. Instead of the old nomenclature, the SUV now uses a new variant nomenclature. As a result, it comes in the following trim levels: MX1, MX2, MX2 Pro, MX3, MX3 Pro, AX5, AX5 L, AX7, and AX7 L. It joins the Tata Nexon – available in Smart, Smart+, Smart+ S, Pure, Pure S, Creative, Creative+, Creative+ S, Fearless, Fearless S and Fearless+ S variants – in the sub-compact SUV segment. Mahindra XUV 3XO vs Tata Nexon: Powertrain
While the XUV 3XO retains its engine options – 109bhp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol; 129bhp, 1.2-litre TGDi turbo-petrol; and 115bhp, 1.5-litre diesel engine, it gets a new 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox that comes mated to the petrol engines. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard, while the diesel engine also gets an optional 6-speed AMT.
Meanwhile, the Tata Nexon is powered by either a 1.5-litre diesel or a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The diesel engine produces 113bhp and 260Nm of peak torque, whereas the turbocharged petrol mill generates 118bhp and 170Nm of maximum torque. Transmission options are six-speed MT, six-speed AMT, seven-speed DCT (with paddle shifters), and five-speed MT. The first two are available with a diesel engine, while a petrol unit can be paired with any of the four.
Mahindra XUV 3XO vs Tata Nexon: Mileage
The turbo-petrol engine of the Mahindra XUV 3XO gives out an ARAI-certified mileage of up to 20.1km/l, making it more fuel efficient than that of the Tata Nexon's (17.44km/l). Meanwhile, the XUV 3XO's diesel unit has a lesser fuel efficiency – up to 21.2km/l versus the Nexon's diesel AT's 24.08km/l.

Measuring 1,821mm in width and 1,647mm in height, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is 17mm wider and 27mm taller than the Tata Nexon. At 3,990mm long, the XUV 3XO is almost the same length as the Nexon (3,995mm). It sits on a longer wheelbase of 2,600mm, and has a boot capacity of 364 litres –18 litres shy of the Nexon's.

Mahindra XUV 3XO vs Tata Nexon: Features
Features-wise, the XUV 3XO offers a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a 7-speaker Harman Kardon music system, an AdrenoX connectivity suite, and wireless charging. Also, it features 17-inch alloy wheels.
On the other hand, the Tata Nexon gets 16-inch alloy wheels, a single-pane electric sunroof, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, an iRA connectivity suite, and automatic climate control. Common features include dual 10.25-inch displays for the infotainment and instrumentation, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In terms of safety, both models are well-equipped with six airbags, a 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESP), blind spot monitor, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. The new Mahindra XUV 3XO also gets a segment-first Level 2 ADAS suite.

The newly launched Mahindra XUV 3XO is priced from Rs 7.49 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh, whereas the Tata Nexon ranges between Rs 8.15 lakh and Rs 15.80 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
