The larger iteration of the Mahindra Thar is set to go on sale in India on August 15, 2024. It is called the Thar Roxx, a name which Mahindra registered in December last year. The SUV features some noticeable design changes in addition to a longer wheelbase and two extra doors, as compared to its 3-door sibling. It is also expected to receive more technology and features to meet the requirements of modern buyers. While there is still time for the larger Thar to arrive in India, here's a closer look at some of its design differences from the conventional model.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar 3-Door: What's Different?
Mahindra has tweaked a lot of design elements to give the Thar Roxx a fresh look. To begin, the grille is now in body colour with a powerful and robust design, replacing the smaller six-slat design of the three-door variant. It features a front camera, which suggests the availability of a 360-degree configuration.

In contrast to the halogen headlamps, the new Thar features LED headlamps with C-shaped LED DRLs. Other notable design elements of the bigger SUV include fender-mounted ORVMs, round fog lights, black front door handles, faux skid plates, and C-pillar-positioned body-coloured rear door handles.
The Thar Roxx sports dual-tone alloy wheels instead of the monotone ones featured on the three-door model. While there is no official information, the wheels could be the same size, at 18 inches. Further, the wheel arches on the SUV are square as opposed to round on the three-door model.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar 3-Door: Interior and Features
The larger infotainment system is expected to be the most significant interior modification. The existing Thar features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The 5-door variant may receive a larger 10.25-inch unit, although no formal announcement has been made. Other prominent features could include the push start/stop button, a panoramic sunroof, beige upholstery, keyless entry, and USB type-c charging ports. For safety, the new SUV may get ADAS, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, and up to six airbags.

Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar 3-Door: Powertrain
Mahindra could offer three engine options with the Thar 5-door – 2.0-litre turbo petrol, 2.2-litre diesel, and a new 1.5-litre diesel, with both manual and automatic transmissions. Just like the Thar 3-door, the Thar Roxx will likely come with a rear-wheel drive as standard and optional 4WD.
