Buying the Mahindra Thar has now got a little pricier. According to Mahindra's website, the entry-level variants of the Thar SUV carry higher price tags, while prices of other variants remain the same. The price bump comes nearly three months ahead of the Thar 5-door's official unveiling. So, if you are looking to buy the diesel-powered AX (O) variant with a manual transmission, be prepared to spend Rs 10,000 more. The same goes for the LX diesel MT RWD and LX petrol AT RWD variants as well. Here's a look at the price changes for the Mahindra Thar variants:

Mahindra Thar: Engine
Despite the price hike, there are no cosmetic or mechanical changes to the Mahindra Thar. The Thar AWD continues to get the same engine options: a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. The latter develops 130bhp and 300Nm of peak torque, whereas the former churns out 150bhp and 320Nm of torque. Both engines come with either a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission.
As for the Thar RWD, it is available with either a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine or a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The latter makes 118bhp and 300Nm of peak torque and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The petrol engine, on the other hand, is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Mahindra Thar: Price
In the Indian market, the Mahindra Thar 4WD is available at a starting price of Rs 14.30 lakh and goes up to Rs 17.60 lakh. The Thar 2WD, on the other hand, ranges between Rs 11.35 lakh and Rs 14.10 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.

Mahindra Thar 5-door Launch Likely in 2024
In related news, Mahindra is working toward bringing in the new 5-door Thar, which is expected to make its market entry sometime in 2024. The upcoming model will be offered with 4X4 and 4X2 powertrain options and could be Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000 more expensive than the current 3-door model. Expect the 5-door SUV to come with a price tag of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
