The much-anticipated Mahindra Thar 5-door will go on sale in India in 2024, as confirmed by the leading homegrown automaker. The upcoming Thar 5-door has been spied upon on several occasions already, and now, another camouflaged prototype of the four-wheeler has been spotted, as it was being tested in Pune, India. The Thar 5-door SUV from the house of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is expected to take on the new Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door, which will be launched in the first week of June. A couple of days ago, spy footage of the Mahindra Thar in its five-door guise surfaced online. While it was heavily covered, the test mule did reveal to feature a fixed rear glass window hinged at the top and a rear wiper behind the spare wheel.
In related news, the facelifted version of the Mahindra XUV300 was also spotted testing alongside the Thar 5-door. According to the spy images, the Mahindra XUV300 facelift will be equipped with a single-pane sunroof, roof rails, a roof spoiler, etc.

Mahindra Thar 5-door: What Do The Latest Spy Shots Reveal?
Now, the latest spy images of the Mahindra Thar 5-door give away some fresh details. As a part of new revelations made by these spy shots, the upcoming SUV will get a single-pane electric roof, once launched in the country. An interesting to note here is that the prototype spotted got a sunroof over the second-row seats. Since the demand for cars with sunroofs has increased, now almost every carmaker is mulling launching their new cars with sunroofs. For instance, the Exter from Hyundai will be the first small car in India to come with a sunroof.
Mahindra Thar 5-door: Features, Price
Apart from a sunroof and a fixed rear glass, the Thar 5-door SUV will likely come equipped with a front centre armrest, LED taillamps, a split window for the rear occupants, rear door handles, multiple seating options, an 8-inch touchscreen system, cruise control, a rear parking camera, an 8-inch touchscreen system, up to six airbags, and automatic AC. Expect the SUV to ride on updated alloy wheels, besides receiving minor updates to the interior theme. In terms of pricing, the new Mahindra Thar 5-door is anticipated to start at about Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom), and it will rival the Force Gurkha and the soon-to-be-launched Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door.

Mahindra Thar 5-door: Platform and Powertrain
The Mahindra Thar 5-door will likely sit atop the same ladder frame chassis as seen on the Mahindra Scorpio N. Powertrain options will most probably include a 2.2-litre mHawk 130 CRDe diesel and a 2.0-lite mStallion 150 TGDi petrol engine. As offered with the Thar 3-door SUV, the 2.2-litre diesel engine produces 130bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. While the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine churns out 150 bhp and 320 Nm. On offer are a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, rumours suggest that Mahindra could offer the RWD version of the 5-door SUV in the future, but there has been no official confirmation.
