The Mahindra Thar is the nation's top-selling lifestyle off-road vehicle right now. The Jimny five-door from Maruti Suzuki, one of its biggest competitors, will soon be launched in India, with its five doors being its biggest selling point. So, it's no surprise then that Mahindra, the country's largest manufacturer of utility vehicles, is working on the five-door Thar, and its test mules have been spotted all over the nation. Most recently, a new batch of spy photos of this soon-to-be-launched SUV made headlines. The model was reportedly spotted in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, and the latest spy photos show the five-door Mahindra Thar from multiple angles. The SUV's left front three-quarters are shown in the first image, and it is clear from this angle that it will be much longer than the two-door Thar it replaces. The middle of the SUV will have two more doors. Although the SUV's exact dimensions are currently unknown, some details imply that it will be about 22 per cent longer than the current Thar two-door.

Mahindra Thar 5-door: What Spy Shots Reveal?
Additionally, the spy images show the vehicle's rear and side profiles. It seems that the SUV will probably retain all the styling cues of the two-door Thar and will probably have the same front and back ends. The only exterior change would be in the form of the newly developed alloy wheels. In contrast to conventional door handle placement, which is horizontal, the previous shots indicate that the door handles of the new five-door Thar's middle doors will be positioned vertically on the pillar, just like those of the Maruti Suzuki Swift.
The interior of the Thar 5 door was also shown in the prior shots, and not much seemed to have changed on the dashboard of the five-door Thar. The seats, steering wheels, infotainment screen, and air conditioning controls all seem to have the same appearance as the previous two-door Thar. There are, however, a few differences. For instance, the new five-door Thar's roof has soft-touch materials and a much more conventional appearance. A sunglass holder and dome lights are also on the roof. The roof-mounted speakers, however, seem to be absent. Also, the rear seat seems to have a decent amount of legroom.
Mahindra Thar 5-door: Powertrain Options
As per reports, the Thar 3-door's 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, both of which will be offered with manual and automatic transmissions, will still be available as powertrain choices for the upcoming Thar. According to the previous spy photos, there will also be a 4X2 option in addition to the common 4X4 option.
