Mahindra & Mahindra on Tuesday confirmed that all its existing models with internal combustion engines will eventually also come with an electric twin. There is no set release date, but the Indian SUV manufacturer has verified that Bolero, Thar, and Scorpio are all part of this strategy. In addition to the XUV400, Mahindra will soon make BE-range cars available in the Indian market. Core ICE cars will also have EV powertrain options in the times to come and both types of vehicles will be available for purchase simultaneously but in separate product lines. The new Mahindra EVs will be categorised as Born Electric Vehicles.  The company claims that eventually, these models would appeal to the lifestyle shopper who is equally worried about the environment. New all-electric Mahindra vehicles will include soundscapes designed and composed by Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, Mahindra announced.

Mahindra to Increase Electric SUVs Line-ups

Rajesh Jejurikar, Mahindra's executive director and chief executive officer (auto and farm sector), recently announced the company would release electric versions of two of its best-selling SUVs. However, he did not share a launch date. Mahindra introduced five all-electric sport utility vehicles (SUVs) in August 2022: the XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, BE.07, and BE.09. In the range of December 2024 and October 2026, you can expect to see the introduction of the XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, and BE.07. Mahindra has previously stated that by 2027, it wants EVs to account for 20%-30% of SUV sales.

Temasek, a global investment business located in Singapore, and Mahindra recently announced a contractual agreement whereby Temasek will invest Rs 1,200 crore in Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd (MEAL), the XUV700 manufacturer's passenger EV subsidiary, increasing its worth by 15%. At a valuation of up to Rs 80,580 crore, Temasek will own a 1.49 per cent to 2.97 per cent stake in MEAL after investing Rs 1,200 crore in the manner of compulsorily convertible preference shares.

Mahindra Unveils INGLO P1 Platform

Mahindra's new dedicated EV platform, the INGLO P1, will serve as the basis for the Thar EV in a modified form. Mahindra will get its INGLO batteries and motor from BYD at first for products like the XUV.e8, but for the Thar.e, the company is more likely to employ Volkswagen's more powerful motors.

There will be a total of six brand-new electric SUVs, all of which will share the INGLO platform. The length, width, and height of the skateboard deck are all adjustable thanks to its modular design. There is a 130mm range for adjusting the wheelbase. However, reports suggest that the P1, on which the Thar.e would be based, will have a wheelbase of somewhere in the neighbourhood of 2775mm to 2975mm, or nearly three metres. Mahindra published a schematic showing where the extra length goes: between the front firewall and the front wheel hub.

Their present power outputs of 80kW and 210kW for the front and rear axles, respectively, are subject to change. There may be no need for a low-range transfer case if 135Nm and 535Nm are available at idling speed.
