The Mahindra Scorpio-N will debut on June 27.
Mahindra seems to be on a bit of a streak at the moment. The new Thar took the entire industry by storm upon its launch, with unheard-of wait times and booking numbers for a lifestyle SUV. Then came the XUV700, which also rocked the market with segment-first features, excellent powertrains, and its prioritisation of safety. And now, Mahindra is all set to launch the Scorpio-N, which is set to be a big departure from the Scorpio of the past. Here’s everything we know.
Proper SUV
Mahindra has confirmed that the Scorpio-N will be sold with four-wheel drive. We expect it to be a proper 4x4 system and not what we get with the XUV700 AWD. Of course, two-wheel-drive variants will also continue to be offered and will probably make up a big chunk of its sales, but it is nice to see Mahindra continue to offer 4x4 with its SUVs.
In addition to that, Mahindra also stated that the new Scorpio-N sits on a new ladder-on-frame chassis – a hallmark of any serious SUV. This should give the Scorpio-N some serious off-road ability.
Powertrains
The Scorpio-N is set to be launched with both petrol and diesel engine options and will also get both manual and automatic variants. While not confirmed, we expect the Scorpio-N to have the same engines as the XUV700 – a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel.
Design
Thanks to official images and online leaks, we have a pretty good idea of what the Scorpio-N will look like. It will retain the butch stance of its predecessor but will have a much more modern look overall, with LED lighting, chrome detailing, and more.
Scorpio legacy continues
Mahindra will continue to sell the current-gen Scorpio alongside the Scorpio-N and will be renamed the Scorpio Classic, which will not only spell good things for customers but also give the Scorpio brand name a wider appeal.
Launch date
The Scorpio-N is slated to be launched on June 27, and we can’t wait to find out more about its features, pricing, and variants and get behind its wheel.
