While Mahindra is busy prepping the stage for the launch of the NuvoSport on April 4, 2016, the specs of the forthcoming vehicle have already leaked out. Set to replace the aging Xylo, the Nuvo Sport will be offered with a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
This engine is the same unit to the one available in the TUV300, although in the NuvoSport it comes in a higher state of tune. It develops a peak power output of 100bhp @ 3,750rpm along with 240Nm of peak-torque flowing in between 1,600 – 2,800rpm. Two switchable drive modes namely - Power and Economy, are available. In Power mode, it will develop the aforementioned power and torque while in Economy mode the power output will drop to 72bhp @ 3,250rpm and torque to 180Nm @ 1,600 – 2,100rpm. Power will be sent to rear wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox, although an AMT-equipped version is also expected.
On the outside, the NuvoSport features a completely redesigned front end highlighted by a high power dome, a wide hexagonal grille and new head lamps with day time running lamps mounted separately. Although the side and rear profiles of the NuvoSport look largely similar to the Quanto.
The Mahindra NuvoSport will be competing against the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, etc.
