Mahindra will be launching a reworked version of the Quanto later today to slot in yet another offering in the compact utility vehicle space

Mahindra is all set to launch a new compact utility vehicle later today. The vehicle in question has been badged as the NuvoSport and is essentially a reworked version of its Quanto compact MUV. The Mahindra NuvoSport is yet another move for the car maker to make its presence felt in a stronger manner in the compact SUV space by positioning its latest offering as a compact SUV alongside its TUV300, which has been performing quite well on the sales charts.

Since the NuvoSport is based on the Quanto, it too is underpinned by a shortened version of the ladder frame chassis that underpins the Xylo MUV. Firepower will come from a 1.5 litre, three cylinder turbo diesel engine which is likely to feature multiple driving modes like on the TUV to ensure good fuel efficiency. The engine will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox with the option of an AMT automatic gearbox.

During late March 2016, Mahindra released exterior images of the NuvoSport to give us a peek at what the new Mahindra will look like. And from what we can see here it has to be said that Mahindra has tried very hard to give the NuvoSport an aggressive front fascia to make it appear like a compact SUV. There is a tall bumper up front, a wide hexagonal grille, the bonnet gets a central air dam, the headlamps are accompanied by separate daytime running LED lamps mounted above. The whole car gets black plastic cladding running around the lower section. Apart from new design lines, you can make out the similarities to the Quanto as the glass house remains the same and so does the overall profile of the vehicle while those D-pillar mounted tail lamps are retained and so is the tailgate mounted spare wheel.

We expect the interiors of the NuvoSport to be fairly contemporary and all-new in comparison to the Quanto’s and more in line with that of the TUV300 to make it feel more contemporary. Expect the vehicle to come with more equipment too.
