Mahindra Scorpio Intelli-Hyrbid features Electric Motor Assist, Start-Stop System and Brake Energy Regeneration.
Mahindra has introduced a mild-hybrid system, called ‘Intelli-Hybrid’, in the Scorpio. The fuel saving tech is available with manual versions of the SUV fitted with the company’s 2.2-litre mHawk diesel powertrain. The top-end S10 2WD variant of the Scorpio Intelli-Hybrid is priced at Rs 12.84 lakh (ex-showroom, pre-octroi, Mumbai).
The Intelli-Hybrid tech is claimed to reduce fuel consumption by 7 per cent. This is done by using an electric motor assist, Start-Stop system and brake energy regeneration. The electric motor assists the engine during acceleration while the Start-Stop switches the engine off while idling or when the vehicle is stationary. The brake regeneration system charges the battery using brake energy, which is normally wasted while braking.
Commenting on the development, Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “As an organisation that places keen emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly practices, across every process and product, we are proud to introduce mild hybrid technology on the Scorpio. By reducing fuel consumption, Intelli-Hybrid helps Scorpio owners contribute towards a cleaner and greener tomorrow.”
Barring the base S2 variant which comes fitted with a 2.5-litre diesel engine, the Intelli-Hybrid tech is offered with the 180bhp/280Nm rated 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine available in the S4, S4+, S4+ 4WD, S6+, S8, S10 2WD (manual transmission) and S10-4WD (manual transmission) variants. This would also mean that the Intelli-Hybrid tech will not be made available in Delhi-NCR since the Scorpio sold over here is only offered with the downsized 1.99-litre diesel engine, owing to the ban on diesel vehicles above 2,000cc of engine capacity.
