Mahindra Auto Steel, a part of the Mahindra group has inaugurated its steel automotive steel processing facility in Chakan, Maharashtra. The new facility is the result of a joint venture China Steel Global Trading Corporation, Taiwan and Mitsui & Co. (Asia Pacific) Pte. Ltd., Singapore. Mahindra Intertrade of which Mahindra Auto Steel is a subsidiary holds 51 per cent stake in the Joint Venture, while the other two partners hold 24.5 per cent stake each.
An investment of Rs. 110 crore has been made in Phase 1 of setting up the plant which is spread over 10 acres of real estate. The plant has an annual production capacity of processing 1 lakh tonnes. The new plant complies with IGBC’s Green Building norms. This happens to be the seventh steel service facility of Mahindra Intertrade. It is also the brand's third plant in the Pune region and the company’s third automotive steel plant as well.
Speaking at the launch announcement Harsh Kumar, Managing Director, Mahindra Intertrade, and Member, Group Executive Board, M&M. said, “It gives us immense pleasure to announce commencement of operations at our new plant in Chakan. This world-class facility located in the automotive hub of Chakan, and backed by the highest quality steel from our partners, would help redefine the automotive steel supply chain model in the region.”
