Within a month after the Made-in-India Suzuki Jimny was launched in South Africa, the five-door version of the SUV has found its way into the Australian market. In early October, the automaker started exporting its popular off-roader to various markets, such as the Middle East, Latin America, and South Africa. The Jimny 5-door made its debut at the Auto Expo in January and was launched in the Indian market in June.
Called the Jimny XL in Australia, the 5-door SUV will go on sale alongside the Jimny 3-door, the production of which began in November 2020 for exports to Latin America and Africa. The XL receives minor region-specific upgrades, without any changes to its powertrain. In terms of features, the Australia-spec model remains broadly the same as the India-spec SUV but gains an ADAS suite with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) as standard. In early 2023, the Government of Australia made the AEB feature mandatory in all new passenger and commercial vehicles approved for sale in the country, effective from March 1, 2023.

Suzuki Jimny XL: ADAS Features
The ADAS suite also includes features such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, high-beam assist, dual camera brake support system, and weaving alert. Other safety bits include six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, traction control, and ISOFIX mounts.
Like the India-spec model, the Jimny XL comes equipped with a 9.0-inch multimedia touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car technology, cruise control, climate control, keyless entry, limited slip differential, and more.
Suzuki Jimny XL: Engine, Output
Mechanically, the Jimny XL retains the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated K15B petrol engine, which is mated to either a 4-speed automatic torque converter gearbox or a 5-speed manual gearbox. This engine, however, is offered in a different state of tune, developing 99bhp and 130Nm of peak torque. In comparison, the India equivalent makes 103bhp at 6,000rpm and 134Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm.
In addition, the Jimny also includes a standard AllGrip Pro 4WD system, consisting of a manual transfer case and a low-range gearbox with 2WD-high, 4WD-high, and 4WD-low modes.
Suzuki Jimny XL: Size/Dimensions
In terms of dimensions, the Jimny 5-door measures 3,985mm in length, 1,645mm in width, and 1,720mm in height. At just under 4 metres in length, the Jimny is shorter than Mahindra Thar. Given its size, the Jimny has a fair amount of boot space, at 211 litres. It has a wheelbase of 2,950mm and a ground clearance of 210mm.
Suzuki Jimny XL: Price
In Australia, the Jimny XL is offered at a starting price of AU$ 34,990 (approximately Rs 19.22 lakh) for the manual variant, which is significantly more than the 3-door model, which is exported to Australia from Japan. The Jimny 5-door, meanwhile, is exclusively exported from India.
Maruti Suzuki to Hike Prices Across Models in India from Jan 1, 2024

While the carmaker has yet to disclose the exact details of the price hike, the reason behind this move is the rising input costs and commodity prices. Despite its best efforts to cut costs and counteract the rising costs, the carmaker was compelled to share some of the burden of increased costs with customers.
