Lotus has unveiled its new electric concept, Theory 1, which symbolises the brand's future design philosophy. The two-door EV is 4,490mm long, 1,140mm tall, and 2,000mm wide. It weighs less than 1,600 kg and has a 2,650mm wheelbase. Design-wise, the EV seems to be inspired by the Esprit, with its pointed wedge design that yields a prominent nose blade and thin, boomerang-shaped headlamps. Though the cab-forward design is similar to the mid-engine Esprit layout, the ultra-sleek taillights, elevated adjustable spoiler, and huge diffuser in the rear are different. The electric sports car concept gets dihedral synchro-helix doors, which are similar to those on a Koenigsegg but open in the direction of the back rather than the front. Read on for more details.

The integrated battery, recycled carbon tub, and composite and polycarbonate body are features of Theory 1. The motor and suspension unit, which features a pull-rod design, influenced by racing and variable dampers, are attached to the back wing. Additionally, the EV's nose directs airflow through the underfloor and into the cooling system. Inside, the sports car concept boasts a driver's seat positioned in the middle, with two passenger seats on either side. This is the same 3-seater arrangement as the McLaren F1. Other bits include a head-up display, a speedometer closer to the windshield, a small screen on the steering wheel, and speakers incorporated into the headrests. While highlighting the interior, the company said 'The inside of the vehicle structure has also been shaped around the human body, with the seating integrated into the structure. Lotus has designed the car, to respond to the occupant’s body. For instance, the steering wheel and pedals all move towards the driver. The car also features steer-by-wire, which enables precision and control at every turn and the ability to adjust steering ratios, speed, and feel.'
