With the launch of the all-electric Eletre SUV as its debut model, English sports car manufacturer Lotus has now formally arrived on Indian shores. The Eletre, which starts at Rs 2.55 crore, is now the most costly and potent electric SUV in the nation. Additionally, it was the very first car that signalled the onset of Lotus' transformation into an electric-only performance carmaker. The newly launched model is being offered in three distinct variants - the base-spec Eletre, Eletre S, and the top-of-the-line Eletre R. For the domestic market, Lotus models will be sold and distributed by Exclusive Motors of New Delhi, which also sells Bentley cars in the nation. Notably, the brand's inaugural dealership will open in the Capital city early next year, with more showrooms opening around the country in succeeding years. Lotus Eletre SUV: Price Range
The British marque stated that Eletre's pricing could alter depending on options, changes in exchange rates, and tax changes. As far as the variant-wise price range is concerned, the Lotus Eletre (base variant) is priced at Rs 2.55 crore, the Eletre S at Rs 2.75 crore, and the Eletre R at Rs 2.99 crore. All mentioned figures are ex-showroom. Furthermore, the company announced that its mid-engine sports car, the Emira, will make its India debut in 2024.
Lotus Eletre SUV: Exterior Design and Colour Options
The sleek design and aggressive stance of the Eletre electric are impressive. Its large air dam and active grille complement the L-shaped matrix LED headlamps on the front. The model's general shape seems to have similarities to other flagship models in the high-performance SUV segment, such as the Lamborghini Urus as well as the Ferrari Purosangue. A substantial active rear spoiler completes the smooth transition from the roofline's sloping design to the tailgate in the rear end. The SUV's integrated LED taillamps, which are emphasised by a noticeable blacked-out rear bumper, improve its overall visual appeal.
The Eletre comes standard with 22-inch wheels, although 20- and 23-inch options are also available. There are also six different brake calliper hues and five distinct wheel designs. Speaking of colour options, there are currently six exterior paint jobs to choose from - Natron Red, Galloway Green, Stellar Black, Kaimu Grey, Blossom Grey, and Solar Yellow.
Lotus Eletre SUV: Battery Pack and Performance
Regarding mechanical details, the Eletre is equipped with a standard 112kWh battery pack across the range. With its dual motor configuration, the Eletre and the Eletre S can travel 600-kilometre on a single charge and generate 600bhp of peak power along with 710Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the more potent Eletre R comes with a two-speed gearbox and a dual-motor setup. It is capable of developing over 900bhp and 985Nm of torque. Moreover, this combination allows it to have a driving range of 490-kilometre.
Lotus Eletre SUV: Cabin Layout and Features
The Lotus Eletre SUV's cabin has a black theme throughout, including the black upholstery. The 15.1-inch floating infotainment display inside, which manages all of the vehicle's functions, is its key feature. The dashboard incorporates sleek displays for the driver and co-driver. There is also a second infotainment unit available for the rear passenger. A standard 15-speaker KEF sound system is present. The car's top-spec variant, on the other hand, has a 2,160 W, 23-speaker system that provides 3D surround sound. Along with autonomous driving capabilities, the Eletre has Lidar sensors as well.
On top of that, the automaker provides the parking pack and highway assist pack, two sophisticated driving aid system packages, for the Eletre. A Lotus Dynamic Handling pack, a carbon fibre pack, gloss black wheels shod in high-performance tyres, and stainless steel pedals can also be had with the Eletre R.

Lotus Eletre SUV: Competition Check
Considered a high-end alternative for the Jaguar I-Pace and the BMW iX, the new Eletre EV from Lotus is further being considered as a battery-powered substitute for the Lamborghini Urus S in the Indian market.
