Mercedes-Benz adds C 250d to the current C-Class line-up in India. Gets a more powerful diesel powertrain and a new 9-speed automatic gearbox.
Mercedes-Benz India has launched a more powerful version of the C-Class in the country. Billed as the C 250d, the new variant will sit above the C 200 and C 220d in the range, carrying a price tag of Rs 44.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). Mercedes will assemble the C 250d locally for sales in the domestic market.
With a claimed 0-100km/h time of 6.6 seconds, Mercedes-Benz boasts the C 250d is the fastest sedan in its segment. Which is largely thanks to an uprated powertrain and a new gearbox. The C 250d comes powered by a 2,143cc in-line 4-cylinder diesel engine that develops 201bhp and 500Nm of torque. Unlike the C 200 or C 220d, the newly launched version gets the company’s latest 9-speed automatic gearbox instead of the 7-speeder. Mercedes categorically states that it emits 30 per cent less NOX than the permitted limit. Fuel economy is rated at 19.71km/l (claimed).
Visually, the C 220d remains virtually unchanged from the lower-powered models. Among some of the highlights, the new variant gets Garmin Map Pilot navigation system, ambient lighting, all-LED Intelligent Light System, Parktronic assist etc.
Commenting on the development, Mr. Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes Benz India, said: “We always presented the best of our products and services to our elite patrons in the shortest possible lead time. The overwhelming response for the new C-Class drove us to commence the local manufacturing of the C 250d simultaneously with its introduction in India. This key step is not merely a reflection of our localisation strategy, but also underscores our unsurpassed commitment of driving value for our customers. We are confident that the local production of the C 250d, will create high customer interest with additional value proposition and increased availability”
According to Mercedes-Benz, the C-Class is one of the best-selling models for the manufacturer in India. The introduction of a C 250d will certainly attract buyers looking for a more performance oriented diesel car in the segment.
