Created in the ‘60s to comply with the safety regulations, the latest version of the iconic Porsche 911 Targa has finally arrived in India.

Considered by many as a true legend, the Porsche 911 Targa has been enjoying the glam from the time of its inception. When American laws made it mandatory for the cars to have roll hoop, Porsche rolled out the first Targa ever and since then the model has become synonymous with the word ‘icon’.

The latest generation of the Targa has finally reached India with its latest technology and highly advanced roof technology. The seventh generation of the Targa, which was created for the first time in 1965, is the perfect amalgamation of the contemporary design and the new age technology.

Commenting on the launch of the icon, Anil Reddi, Director, Porsche India said, “The 911 is a sports car which has won more races than any other and, in this latest evolution, I believe it has never looked more spectacular. In the 911 Targa, we see the ultimate in driving dynamics come together with stunning design and the very latest in ground-breaking roof technology. The car’s arrival here in India signifies a new chapter in the legendary model’s evolution and I am incredibly proud and excited to welcome it.”

Similar to the first generation, the new Targa has the characteristic wide bar in place of the B-pillars, a movable roof section above the front seats and a wraparound rear window with no C-pillar. But unlike the classic models, the roof segment on the new models can be opened and closed at the push of a button.

The engine powering the new Targa 4 is a 3.4-litre, inline six that delivers 350bhp of power. The power is then delivered to all the four wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission. The car has the potential to do 100kmph from zero in mere 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 282kmph.

The more powerful Targa 4S has a 3.8-litre engine delivering 400bhp and can go up to the 296kmph mark. It does the zero to 100kmph run in 4.4 seconds if equipped with the optional Sport Chrono package.
