Land Rover is revealed its first-ever hybrid models in the form of the new Range Rover Hybrid and Range Rover Sport Hybrid. Both the cars will make their world debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
Land Rover has given both the cars the same powertrain. Both the Rangies will get a 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6 paired in parallel with an electric motor integrated with the ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox. With 335bhp at your disposal and 700Nm of torques generated from as low as 1,500 rpm these Range Rovers will truly exemplify the way you drive.
The electric motor itself generates 47bhp and around 170Nm of torque. The total weight of the hybrid system, including the floor-mounted lithium-ion battery and inverter, is only 120 kgs helping the vehicles maintain their strong performance and off-road capability.
Land Rover claims that thge Range Rover Hybrid can go from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds while the Range Rover Sport Hybrid can do the same distance in 6.7 seconds. Top speed for both the cars is said to be 217 km/h and 225 km/h respectively.
Both hybrids retain Land Rover’s four-wheel drive system and work in tandom with the computer-controlled Terrain Response 2 off-road system, and both offer uncompromised wading and ground clearance despite their floor-mounted batteries.
To demonstrate this capability, three Range Rover Hybrids will embark on an epic trip, from the home of Range Rover production in Solihull, U.K. to Mumbai. The journey, which Land Rover has dubbed the “Silk Trail 2013,” will see the vehicles travel some 17000 kms across 12 different countries. They are expected to arrive in Mumbai on October 15.
