The second-gen Land Rover Defender is up for grabs in two body styles but only with a single petrol powertrain option.
As a pleasant surprise, Land Rover has today opened its order books for the all-new Defender in India, with prices starting from ₹69.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Interestingly, the Land Rover has brought the new Defender in two body styles: the 90 (three-door) and 110 (five-door). Moreover, each body style will be available in five trim levels - Base, S, SE, HSE & First Edition. As expected, the Defender will be brought to our shores as a CBU, owing to the relaxed import norms for CBUs. Deliveries are expected to begin by August 2020.
Speaking on the launch, Mr Rohit Suri (President & MD) - Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd said, 'The New Defender embraces its rich lineage in a modern, 21st-century package that makes it extremely capable, on and off-road. With the entry of this icon to India, we are extremely proud to offer to our customers, the most capable and durable product in the Land Rover portfolio, while still retaining the authenticity and character of the original.'
While the international-spec Defender comes with multiple engine options, the India-spec car will be offered with just one engine-gearbox combination - it will be the 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The power & torque figures are pegged at 296bhp and 400Nm.
On the equipment front, the Defender gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, LED lighting, a head-up display, electrically-adjustable front seats, and 360-degree surround camera. Further, electronic air suspension will be standard on the Defender 110.
