A lot has been written about it, conspiracy theorists have been working overtime, but Land Rover has finally confirmed that Range Rover Evoque Convertible is definitely on the cards and will make its debut in 2016. According to the company, this will be the first luxury compact SUV convertible.
Though the British automaker has not revealed too many details, they have released an underground testing film of the Evoque Convertible. With its roof lowered, the disguised car was driven in the 41 km network of Crossrail tunnels, forty metres below London's streets. The short film begins with the convertible being lowered into the tunnel network by crane, before negotiating a range of obstacles through the 6.2 metre diameter tunnel.
Murray Dietsch, Director of Land Rover Programmes said, “The tunnels are still under construction, so we had a unique opportunity to explore the vehicle’s all-terrain ability in unchartered territory.”
Evoque Convertible will be built alongside the five door and coupe Evoque at Land Rover’s Halewood plant in the UK and will be on sale in 2016.
