The new Lamborghini Huracan GT3 racecar was unveiled at its headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese. The company’s Squadra Corse team will race the Huracan GT3 in the 2015 Blancpain Endurance Series. This is Lamborghini's first in-house developed GT3 contender as the previous Lamborghini GT3 entries were outsourced to companies like German outfit Reiter Engineering, who built the Gallardo GT3.
Dallara Engineering and Lamborghini’s Volkswagen Group stablemate Audi were both involved in the project, with the former responsible for aerodynamic improvements over the outgoing Gallardo. This rear-wheel drive GT3 is powered by a 5.2-litre V10, which is carried over from the Gallardo, and is mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox equipped with a three-plate clutch. It also comes with a new hood, an aluminium and carbon-fibre chassis, a fully race-compliant roll cage, revised side skirts, an aggressive rear diffuser and adjustable rear wing.
Other race-ready equipment includes a carbon-framed driver’s seat, adjustable pedals, multi-function steering wheel, race-spec fire extinguisher, and an emergency exit hatch in the roof. Just like the road car, ABS, traction control, and LED headlights and tail-lights are also present.
Speaking at the launch, Stephan Winkelmann, president and CEO, Automobili Lamborghini, said, “With the Huracan GT3, Lamborghini Squadra Corse takes a further step forward in the development and production of a racecar for this category, which is among the most prestigious and challenging in international motorsport. Lamborghini is thus for the first time directly involved in GT motorsport activities with the in-house development of this new model.”
