Kia’s SUV line-up of the Sonet and the Seltos has given the brand just the kind of kickstart in the Indian market that they would have hoped for. With UVs really working well for the brand they have chosen to continue focus on the body style
At a round table conference alongside the brand re-launch, Kia India announced that they will continue to focus on SUVs and MPVs. There are no sedans in the pipeline for the near future. When Kia entered the Indian market in 2019, the brand was expected to bring in their popular sedan, Stinger, in the Indian market, but now it looks like those plans have temporarily been shelved.
With just three products on sale so far – Sonet, Seltos and Carnival – Kia has managed to make quite an impact on the Indian market. The Korean carmaker is currently the fourth highest selling carmaker with nearly 6% market share in India. Kia entered the Indian market with the Seltos, followed it up with the launch of their premium MPV, Carnival, at the Auto Expo 2020 in February, and subsequently entered the sub-4 metre space with the Sonet in September last year.
The Sonet and the Seltos have both been bringing impressive numbers for Kia. Currently, both cars have been recording better numbers sedans like the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, or even the new-generation Honda City for that matter. Kia is scheduled to bring in updated iterations of Sonet and Seltos with the new brand logo and some additional features. Expect both these cars to go on sale in the first week of May. Additionally, expect some special edition variants of both these cars later in the year, possibly around the festive season. Kia will not be launching any new cars in the Indian market this year. The brand is, however, scheduled to being in an all-new SUV in early 2022. You can read all about it in the link below.
