The much-awaited Kia Seltos has finally gone on sale in India. It's available with three engine options & is priced (introductory, ex-showroom) between ₹ 9.69 lakh and ₹ 15.99 lakh.
After teasing us for months, Kia Motors has finally launched its first offering for the Indian market, the Seltos SUV. The Seltos is priced between ₹ 9.69 lakh and ₹ 15.99 lakh (introductory ex-showroom) and is offered with three engine options. Its competition includes the likes of the Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and MG Hector, but more importantly, it’ll compete with its own sibling and the current bestseller of the segment, the Hyundai Creta.
Since the Seltos marks Kia’s entry into the Indian market, the company has left no stone unturned with its new SUV. And if there’s one thing that they’ve got right on the money, it’s the Seltos’ design. The production model sticks close to the SP Concept that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo and retains its butch and stylish looks. Prominent design features include Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille with knurl-effect silver surrounds, sleek LED projector lamps, 3D effect multi-layer indicators and ice-cube fog lamps integrated on the front bumper. The squared-off wheel arches with 18-inch alloys (lower-spec models will come with 16- and 17-inch alloys) and a muscular rear section give the Seltos a quintessential SUV stance. Kia is offering a total of 8 colour options and 5 dual-tone paint schemes with the Seltos.
The Seltos is very well-equipped, too. The top-spec variant gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen with UVO connected car features, a Bose sound system, head-up display, ventilated seats, a 360-degree surround camera with blind-spot detection, wireless charging, LED headlamps, leather upholstery, front parking sensors, et al.
Powertrain options include three engines – 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 1.4-litre T-GDI direct injection turbo petrol. The 1.5-litre petrol is rated at 113bhp and develops 144Nm of torque. The diesel mill produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque, while the range-topping 1.4-litre petrol is rated at 138bhp and 242Nm. All the engines are BS6-compliant and will come mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Automatic variants will have a CVT transmission with the 1.5 petrol, a 6-speed torque converter with the diesel and a 7-speed DCT(dual-clutch automatic) with the 1.4 petrol.
Safety net will include six airbags, ABS, traction control, disc brakes on all wheels, et al, in the top-of-the-line variants. ABS and dual airbags are standard fit.
Kia Motors is starting the operations in India with over 190 service outlets in 160 cities across the country. The Seltos is offered with 3 years / unlimited kilometres warranty.
