Kia’s new seven-seater MPV, internally known as the KY, will make its global debut next month. The India launch of the Kia KY is likely to take place sometime in 2022.
Kia Motors will soon unveil the Seltos based three-row MPV, just as Hyundai launched the Alcazar, which is heavily based on the Creta. Internally, the upcoming MPV is known as the Kia KY.
The global unveiling of Kia’s new KY MPV has been scheduled for December 16, 2021. The new MPV is likely to be called Kia Carens – the firm has filed to trademark the name early this year.
The Kia Caren is likely to be based on the same platform as the Kia Seltos. The MPV will be available with both petrol and diesel powertrains. The diesel variant could get the same 1.5-litre turbo-diesel mill, which powers the Seltos and the Sonet. The petrol model, however, is likely to receive an all-new generation motor borrowed from elsewhere within the Hyundai Group. There will be a choice of automatic transmission alongside the standard manual transmission.
The Kia Carens is expected to be loaded with features, just like its sibling, the Kia Seltos. Features such as panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, car connected tech, digital instrument, and many more are expected with the new MVP.
The India launch of the new Kia Carens is likely to be held in the first half of 2022. The Caren is most likely to be priced in the Rs 17 – 21 lakh (ex-showroom) range. The key rivals to Kia’s new seven-seater MPV will be the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Mahindra XUV700.
