The first lot of Kia EV6s is already fully booked.
Kia has brought its born-electric SUV to India. The EV6 is based on Hyundai Group’s E-GMP platform and will be sold in India in GT-line trim, with both RWD and AWD options. The prices of the EV start at Rs 59.95 lakh and go up to 64.95 lakh for the AWD variant, which puts the EV6 right in the middle of the luxury EV space.
The EV6’s styling is one of its most important aspects. It gets swanky, youthful styling with a short nose, a strong character line down the side, and a full-width LED light bar at the rear. We’ve seen the EV6 in the flesh, and we must say that it looks quite good.
Inside, the EV6 gets a spacious cabin with twin 12.3-inch infotainment screens, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless charging, a sunroof, ventilated seats, 64-colour ambient lighting, and a 14-speaker Meridian sound system with the e-AWD model.
In terms of powertrains, the RWD EV6 makes 226bhp and 350Nm and has a range of 510km (WLTP). There is also the more powerful e-AWD variant, with a stonking 320bhp and 605Nm of torque, enabling a 0 to 100km/h time of just 5.2 seconds. The e-AWD, however, does have a slightly compromises range at 438km (WLTP). Both variants come with a 77.4kWh battery.
In terms of pricing, the EV6’s Rs 59.95 lakh sticker price puts it below luxury EVs like the Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi e-tron, and Jaguar i-Pace. At Rs 69.9 lakh, the BMW i4 could be its closest rival. But, then, the yet to be launched Volvo XC40 Recharge could also be priced similarly.
While the first lot of 100 EV6s has been fully booked, with over 350 bookings received, Kia is planning to bring more EV6s to India very soon to meet the demand. Customer deliveries of the first lot of Kia EV6 will start in September 2022.
