Kia EV5 Concept, shown earlier this year, now has a production version, and the South Korean manufacturer has finally made its global debut in China. While technical details of the EV are still under wraps, its production model keeps the upright and boxy silhouette of the original concept while adding a more traditional interior. The 2023 Chengdu Auto Show was the world premiere for the production version. Designed as an electric alternative to the Kia Sportage, the Kia EV5 stands out for its modern look, practical amenities, and spacious cabin. The vehicle was developed with the Chinese market in mind and will first be manufactured in China. Clearly connected to the bigger Kia EV9, the EV5 is the newest member of Kia's growing family of specialised electric vehicles.
Kia EV5 Electric SUV: Design
In terms of aesthetics, the EV5 has the same boxy, upright profile as the EV9, but with some subtle changes. The SUV's front lights are also distinct, with an L-shaped LED daytime running light (DRL) bar that extends from the corners down to the main headlights and a full-width lightbar. The Kia's flanks are clean and uncomplicated, with the exception of the fender and haunch flares. Additionally, the window line takes up a considerable amount of space.
L-shaped LED taillights and a roof-mounted spoiler provide a touch of understated style to the back. The final product looks quite similar to the original vision. The final version of the automobile, however, has normal side mirrors rather than the camera-based ones shown on the concept and production-ready tyres.
Kia EV5 Electric SUV: Interior
There are significant deviations from the idea, nevertheless, in the cabin's layout. Although the seats have been rearranged, the car's signature twin-screen setup on the dashboard has been preserved. The enlarged seat base of the co-driver seat, which flows over the middle tunnel, suggests that a booster seat option may be included in the final SUV. However, only front-seat seatbelts were seen in the available photographs of the vehicle.
Multiple configurations are available for the EV5, and it has the same dual-display design as its most current products. The four-spoke steering wheel and the modern air vents in the centre console are further notable design features. The car's interior is highly customizable in a variety of other ways as well.
For the cabin, Kia provides a choice of four colours and five distinct styles. A system of mood lighting with adjustable brightness is also available. There are a total of 64 colour options, 10 of which were created by Kia's lighting engineers just for this model. In low light conditions, these lights will automatically lower, and if the driver is going too fast, they will change colour to warn them.
Although the car's complete technical specs have not been disclosed, we believe it will come with single- and dual-motor choices as well as different battery pack sizes.
