Sharing its modern styling with the Kia EV9 SUV, the upcoming Kia EV5 has been uncovered in the international markets. The Korean automaker revealed the smaller EV5 in its concept form at Kia Chinese EV Day, less than a week after the EV9 three-row SUV broke cover. The new 'Concept EV5', as referred to by the company, previews a future production model that is reported to go on sale in the Chinese market later this year. The smaller EV5 looks identical to the larger EV9 sibling, design-wise. Following in the footsteps of the EV9, the upcoming EV5 reveres a new design philosophy - Opposites United, which emphasises a modern futuristic design. In terms of size and price, it will be positioned below the EV6, a mid-size crossover. However, the company is yet to reveal many details about this model.

Kia EV5 Concept SUV: Exterior, Interior
Like the freshly revealed EV9, the concept EV5 has sharp lines and futuristic features. Upfront, the smaller crossover gets Digital Tiger Face, vertical LED headlamps on the extreme outer edges, and Star Map LED DRLs (daytime running lights). At the rear, the electric brother receives bracket-shaped tail lights and rides on asymmetrically- designed 21-inch alloy wheels. It comes with two rows of seats against the three-row EV9 SUV.
On the inside, the upcoming EV5 features an octagonal steering wheel with sleek buttons, a minimalistic dashboard layout, swivelling seats, a wraparound digital infotainment system, and a storage area ahead of the front seats. Moreover, it also sports a panoramic sunroof.
Kia EV5 Concept SUV: Powertrain
The Kia EV5 is likely to be underpinned by the E-GMP (electric global modular platform) as the company's other new EV models. While the mechanical specifications remain under wraps, the EV5 may come equipped with multiple battery-pack options and single- and dual-motor configurations. If we go by some reports, the Kia EV5 will offer a maximum range of over 482 kilometre, if it uses a 77kWh battery like the EV6.

The Kia EV5 will be launched in China first, before heading to the U.S. and other global markets. Once it hits the showrooms, the EV5 is likely to rival the likes of the Toyota bZ4X, the Nissan Ariya, and the Volkswagen ID 4.
