Kia has announced the debut date for its new compact electric SUV, the EV3. On May 23, the wraps will come off this vehicle expected to be built on Hyundai Motor Group's E-GMP platform. Kia previewed the concept version of the EV3 at its global EV Day event held last year in South Korea, but now it has released the initial set of teaser images of the production-spec model. The images suggest that the production model bears a resemblance to the concept version. Like Kia's flagship EV9, the EV3 embodies a new, modern design philosophy called 'Opposites United'. From what we can discern, the upcoming EV3 will get the signature Star Map lighting as well as the boxy rear fenders and tailgate. Along with a new front-end design (dubbed Tiger Face), the car will feature angular headlights with T-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs).

The interior of the new Kia EV3 is expected to follow the design direction laid down by other Kia electric vehicles. It will adopt a minimalistic approach, with a few physical buttons on the dashboard. One can expect leather-free materials, enhanced interior space, and a twin-screen setup comprising a digital instrument console and a touchscreen infotainment system.
Kia EV3: Underpinnings, Powertrain
Though the technical details are under wraps, expect the Kia EV3 to use the electric E-GMP platform, which can offer different powertrain and battery options (likely to be 58kWh and 77.4kWh in sizes). However, Kia will likely employ the 400V electrical architecture in the EV3 to keep the cost down. The front-driven entry-level models should pack a single electric motor, while higher-spec variants should get a dual-motor setup.

Kia EV3: Availability
The new Kia EV3 will be globally revealed on May 23, 2024, and its sales will commence later this year. However, it remains to be seen whether this model will make it to the Indian market. If it does, the new Compact SUV will compete against the Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and Kia Seltos in the segment.
