Kia has been enjoying tremendous success in the Indian market with its SUVs like the Seltos and Sonet, showcasing the brand's strong focus on SUVs in its lineup. The fact that another Kia SUV, the Clavis, has been seen testing in India further confirms the company's focus. This five-seater SUV will probably make its worldwide debut before the year ends, as it has already completed various testing phases in South Korea. Its recent sighting in India marks a significant step in its progress. The launch is anticipated to take place in the second half of CY2024, which could coincide with the holiday season. A fascinating peek of this new model can be seen in spy photos from India. Even though Kia hasn't officially announced it, rumours have circulated that the Clavis could make an appearance in the Indian market.

Kia Clavis: Styling Cues

Kia Clavis Front Spied

Several distinctive design elements of the Clavis have been revealed in recent spy shots that were taken while the vehicle was heavily camouflaged. A split headlamp design is probably hidden beneath the camouflage, but vertical LED headlights give it a modern look. It looks like the front section was purposefully designed to be boxy. Sleek flush door handles and prominent roof rails accentuate the characteristic B-pillar design that splits the front and rear portions on the side profile, reminiscent of a station waggon. The Clavis has a distinct allure, enhanced by its hefty black cladding, and it rides on 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The striking look of the Clavis is finished off at the rear by distinctive brake lights that are integrated into the rear windscreen and sleek LED taillights.

Kia Clavis: Powertrain Options

As stated earlier, the upcoming Kia Clavis SUV will offer both electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) options, with electric variants expected to achieve a range of 350 to 400km. ICE models will likely feature a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 118bhp and 172Nm of torque, paired with a choice of a seven-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) or a six-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT). Like the Sonet, the Clavis will have front-wheel drive for agility on the road.

Spy photos reveal a stylish cabin reminiscent of the new Creta, featuring light-coloured accents in white and grey. Notable interior features include USB charging outlets, rear AC vents, and a folding centre armrest in the rear seats. Expect additional amenities such as ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof. Technological enhancements may include 360-degree view cameras and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (Level 1 ADAS), enhancing Clavis's appeal as a modern and tech-savvy SUV.

Kia Clavis: Competitors

It's interesting to note that Kia has registered the name Clavis in India, which could indicate that the SUV would be introduced to the market there. An intriguing new element to the market might be the arrival of a rival to the Hyundai Exter, Tata Punch, and Citroen C3 thanks to this move by the manufacturer.
