The Kia Carens EV has been spotted testing in India for the first time, generating excitement ahead of its anticipated launch. This latest test mule, covered in heavy camouflage, signals notable changes, including an updated suspension system that promises improved handling and ride quality. In April this year, the automaker announced plans to launch a battery-powered version of the Carens. Although the company has not provided a specific launch date for the Carens EV, it is anticipated to arrive on our shores by late next year or early 2026. The upcoming model, part of the brand's expanding electric vehicle range, aims to meet the increasing demand for eco-friendly and efficient transportation options in the Indian market.

Kia Carens EV: Design and Other Details
A test prototype of the fully-electric Carens has recently been spotted for the first time. Unlike the EV6 and EV9, which use a dedicated electric skateboard platform, the Carens EV will utilise the same foundation as the current petrol and diesel models. Several components such as the body shell, panels, and interior elements will be carried over from its internal combustion engine counterpart.
However, the electrified model will differ from the petrol and diesel versions in some aspects. The Carens EV will feature redesigned front and rear bumpers, and its alloy wheels will resemble those found on Kia’s electric vehicles. Additionally, the test mule shows a distinct rear suspension setup and lacks an exhaust pipe assembly, indicating its electric nature.

Kia has kept the electric vehicle's mechanical details under wraps, but it may share its powertrain with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, anticipated to launch in the first quarter of next year. With a single front-axle mounted electric motor and a 45kWh battery pack, the new Carens EV is expected to offer a 500km range on a single charge.
The Carens EV is anticipated to retail for between Rs 22 lakh and Rs 26 lakh. As a point of comparison, the petrol-powered Carens ranges in price from Rs 10.52 lakh to Rs 19.67 lakh. All prices shown are ex-showroom. Upon launch, the Kia model will rival the likes of the upcoming Mahindra XUV.e8 and Maruti Suzuki eVX.
Meanwhile, Kia is also preparing for the launch of its next EV in India, the EV9, scheduled for October 3. It will come to our market via the completely built unit (CBU) route. The EV6 is currently the only battery-powered vehicle in the company's India portfolio.
