Ahead of Jeep's formal entry to the market, here's a low down on the details and specs of all the three models that are coming to India.
After hitting one too many hurdles in the past few years over its launch in India, American off-road specialist, Jeep, is finally here. The Fiat-Chrysler group owned company is all set to formally launch its products in India on August 30, 2016. Jeep will be foraying into the market with the launch of three models in the country – Wrangler Unlimited, Grand Cherokee and the full-bodied performance version, Grand Cherokee SRT.
Before Jeep puts a price-tag on these models though, let’s take a brief look at their specs and other details,
1. Wrangler Unlimited - The Wrangler is the truest Jeep in every sense of the word. Internationally, the Wrangler is available in three- and five-door variants, although for the Indian market the company will only be bringing the latter, which is billed as the Wrangler Unlimited. Featuring a retro and rugged look, the Wrangler Unlimited is a body-on-frame SUV that can literally go-anywhere. It will only be offered with a diesel engine mated to an automatic gearbox in the initial phase. Below are its specs and expected price,
- Wrangler Unlimited
Engine: 2.8-litre/ In-line 4-cylinders / Turbocharged
Fuel: Diesel
Transmission: 5-Speed Automatic / Four Wheel Drive
Power: 197bhp @ 3,600rpm
Torque: 460Nm @ 1,600- 2,000rpm
Expected Price: Rs. 30 lakh - Rs 35 lakh
2. Grand Cherokee – While the Wrangler will be the perfect tool for well-heeled off-road enthusiasts of the country, the Grand Cherokee is going to be the ‘Jeep’ that will appeal to a wider audience base. Currently in its fourth-generation, the Grand Cherokee clubs the ruggedness of the Jeep brand with luxury in a sleek and modern body. And it looks quite intimidating - which is something that attracts luxury SUV buyers in droves.
In India, it will be offered in two variants – Limited and Summit. Both the models will be powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine developed by Fiat, channeling the drive to all four wheels.
- Grand Cherokee
Engine: 3.0-litre/ V6 / Turbocharged
Fuel: Diesel
Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic / Four Wheel Drive
Power: 240bhp
Torque: 570Nm
Expected Price: Rs. 80 lakh - Rs 1 crore
3. Grand Cherokee SRT – Now technically the SRT is the top-of-the-line variant of the Grand Cherokee. But there’s so much more to it. Compared to the regular model, the SRT is a monster – a full-blown performance derivative that comes from Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles’ high-performance SRT (Street and Racing Technology) division. What that means is that it comes fitted with a big block Hemi V8 petrol engine under the hood. To match the firepower, it also gets Bilstein adaptive dampers, selectable driving modes, bigger Brembo brakes, and sticky rubber shod on massive 20-inch wheels. Thanks to all of that, it can do 0-100km/h in a sportscar-rivalling time of just under 5 seconds!
- Grand Cherokee SRT
Engine: 6,4-litre/ Hemi V8
Fuel: Petrol
Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic / Four Wheel Drive
Power: 469bhp @ 6,000rpm
Torque: 630Nm @ 2,800 - 6,000rpm
Expected Price: Rs 1.5 crore
