Jeep’s not only bringing back the more off-road focused Compass, but its bringing an all-new three-row SUV as well.
Jeep’s bringing two new cars to India in 2022 – the Compass Trailhawk facelift and the Meridian (three-row SUV). The Compass Trailhawk is expected to be launched sometime in February, followed by the Meridian in the second quarter of 2022.
The Compass has been without its Trailhawk variant ever since it got a facelift last year. The off-road oriented variant will get the same nip-and-tuck that the regular Compass got. It will also have the partially blacked-out bonnet (there is a Trailhawk decal as well) that we saw on the last Trailhawk. Then there are the redesigned bumpers with more clearance and a different alloy wheel design. The Trailhawk will also pack in additional off-road hardware over the regular 4x4 Compass and will be available with a diesel engine only.
This is the Jeep Commander, the Brazil-spec model of the Meridian.
The Meridian is a three-row SUV that has been derived from the Compass. It’s called the Commander in Brazil. While the underpinnings are an extension of the Compass, its front-end is a little different. Nevertheless, it has that unmistakable Jeep design. Bits of the interior like the dashboard and steering wheel are expected to be shared with the Compass as well. It is expected to make use of the same 2.0-litre diesel engine as the Compass, but in a higher tune.
Jeep hasn’t revealed anything about the Grand Cherokee. The larger Jeep SUV was revealed globally in early 2021, and this time, Jeep will manufacture it in India. That is, it will come in via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route, meaning it will not be as expensive as before. It is however a maybe for 2022, and if not, then we will see it early next year.
