After months and months of testing and numerous spy shots, Jeep has finally released a promotional video of the new Meridian. The new 7-seater SUV will most likely be launched in India by mid-March.
The Jeep Meridian – the upcoming seven-seater SUV from the American brand – has been showcased in a promotional video. While the video has the SUV wrapped under camouflage, it gives us a fair idea of what to expect from the new Meridian. For starters, the overall silhouette is reminiscent of an elongated Jeep Compass. That being said, the SUV does seem very proportionate, especially given its wheel size. The large alloy wheels, shod with relatively low profile tyres, appear to be dual-purpose.
For now, Jeep hasn’t revealed the styling details of the new Meridian, although the Merdian is already on sale overseas as the Jeep Commander. The interior details haven't been revealed yet, but the dashboard design and the overall cabin layout are likely to be similar to the outgoing Jeep Compass.
The Meridian will be a three-row SUV, but for now, there is no confirmation if the new SUV will feature captain seats in the middle-row or not. Given the trend, the absence of a six-seat layout will be a missed opportunity.
The engine will be the same 2.0-litre turbo-diesel motor, which does duty in the Compass, but we suspect that its power output will be higher – somewhere close to 200bhp. The SUV will feature an all-wheel-drive system, and you can also expect different drive and terrain response modes.
The main rivals of the new Meridian will be the MG Gloster, Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, and Mahindra Alturas G4. The official price announcement is likely to be held next month. The Jeep Meridian will most likely go on sale by mid-March 2022.
